Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the relationship between Friends of Salem CERT and the City of Salem?

Friends of Salem CERT is an independent nonprofit organization. While we work in close alignment with the Salem Fire Department and the official City of Salem CERT program, our independent structure allows us to conduct public advocacy, apply for private grants, and secure resources in ways a government-run program cannot.

What is your current nonprofit status?

We are a registered Oregon nonprofit corporation and a federally recognized 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charity.

Can I make a financial donation right now?

We are currently finalizing our banking relationships to allow for secure online donations. In the meantime, if you or your organization would like to make a financial contribution, discuss a corporate sponsorship, or donate emergency equipment, please contact us directly for more information on how to coordinate your gift. We would love to chat with you!

How will my involvement help the Salem community?

Your financial support and volunteer time go directly toward building Salem’s disaster resilience. We use these resources to purchase specialized response gear, fund advanced training for our volunteers, and conduct targeted community outreach to ensure every neighborhood in Salem is prepared and protected.
